Al-Ahli Crowned 2025 Asian Champions
Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli have made history, winning the 2025 AFC Elite Champions League for the first time—without losing a single game. They sealed the title with a commanding 2-0 win over Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in the final held at Alinma Stadium, King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Led by German head coach Matthias Jaissle, Al-Ahli dominated the first half, with both goals coming before the break. The first came in the 35th minute when Wenderson Galeno struck from distance after receiving a pass from Firmino. Just seven minutes later, Franck Kessié doubled the lead with a powerful header from another Firmino assist.
Following the final whistle, AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim of Bahrain awarded the trophy to Al-Ahli captain Firmino. The ceremony was attended by Saudi Vice Minister of Sport Badr Alkadi and Saudi Arabian Football Federation President Yasser Al-Misehal.
Goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper, while Firmino was awarded Best Player.
The win not only secures Al-Ahli’s first-ever continental title, but also earns them a place in three major tournaments: the Intercontinental Cup, the next edition of the AFC Elite Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup 2029.
