Al Ahli overcomes Al Duhail and reaches the AFC Champions League Elite Quarterfinals
Al Ahli secured their place in the AFC Champions League Elite quarterfinals with a 1–0 extra-time victory over Qatar’s Al Duhail at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
The Saudi champions began the match with strong attacking intent, pressing high and looking to break down Al Duhail’s organized defense through repeated moves in the final third. The Qatari goalkeeper produced several key saves, keeping the first half goalless as Al Duhail held firm at the back.
In the second half, Al Ahli maintained their pressure but found few openings, with both teams displaying disciplined defending that sent the game into extra time.
In the 105th minute, Al Ahli was awarded a penalty, but Ivan Toney’s attempt was saved by the Al Duhail goalkeeper. Twelve minutes later, Riyad Mahrez provided the breakthrough, firing a brilliant direct free kick into the net to seal the win for Al Ahli.
The result sends Al Ahli into the quarterfinals as they continue their campaign to defend the continental title.
