Al Ahli marches into AFC Champions League Elite knockout stage with 5–0 win
Al Ahli added another chapter to their continental success, securing a place in the Round of 16 of the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Elite with a commanding 5–0 away win over Al-Shorta SC on Monday night. The Round 6 match took place at Al-Zawraa Stadium in Baghdad.
The defending champions bounced back in style, climbing to 13 points to confirm their qualification for the knockout stage and demonstrate their determination to go deep once again in the competition.
Roger Ibañez opened the scoring in the 30th minute after a swift, well-orchestrated move. The Brazilian defender surged into the box to meet Ivan Toney’s low cross, finishing neatly from close range.
Al Ahli kept up the pressure after the break. In the 56th minute, Toney doubled the advantage, racing behind the defense to receive a pinpoint long pass from Galeno before calmly slotting past the advancing goalkeeper.
