Al Ahli Beats Vissel Kobe 2–1 to Reach AFC Champions League Elite Final
Al Ahli defeated Japan’s Vissel Kobe 2–1 to secure its place in the 2025–26 AFC Champions League Elite final in a semifinal game at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.
The match began at a high tempo, with both sides competing for control. Despite Al Ahli’s early pressure, Vissel Kobe took the lead in the 31st minute against the run of play. Al Ahli continued to push forward and created several chances but was unable to equalize before halftime, going into the break 1–0 down.
In the second half, Al Ahli responded strongly. Galeno leveled the score in the 62nd minute with an excellent strike from outside the penalty area.
The team maintained its attacking momentum, and Ivan Toney scored the winner in the 70th minute to give Al Ahli a 2–1 lead.
Al Ahli then controlled the midfield and remained defensively organized. A goal by Riyad Mahrez in the 75th minute was ruled out for offside, while Vissel Kobe pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages. However, Al Ahli’s defense and goalkeeper held firm to seal the victory.
Al Ahli will face the winner of the match between Japan’s Machida and the UAE’s Shabab Al Ahli in the final on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
